Extra-depth orthopedic walking shoes for swollen feet, hammertoes and AFO braces

The Pedors Stretch Walker Touch Closure (800) is designed for people who need walking shoes with room for swollen feet, edema, hammertoes, custom orthotics or an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO). Extra depth and three insole layers give a fitter options for accommodating the foot and a prescribed device. Two touch closures open the shoe for easier placement, while the wide midfoot provides a broad base beneath the foot.

How the design accommodates your feet

  • Extra-depth design accommodates higher-volume feet and can provide space for ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs).
  • Two adjustable touch closures open the shoe for easier foot placement.
  • Three insole layers give a fitter options for adjusting internal depth.
  • Wide midfoot construction provides a broad platform.
  • Available in Wide (D/E), X-Wide (2E) and XX-Wide (4E).

Choosing your size and width

Choose the size and width shown in the options, using the displayed women's/men's equivalents. When fitting a brace, assess the foot and brace together: foot size alone does not describe the space the shoe needs. Check toe clearance, heel seating and closure reach with the complete setup.

Room for edema, tall feet and prescribed braces

  • Swollen feet and edema: extra depth and adjustable fastening provide options when a standard shoe lacks internal room.
  • Hammertoes and tall feet: the deeper construction gives a fitter more space to work with over the foot.
  • AFO braces and custom orthotics: the opening and insole layers allow the complete foot-and-device setup to be assessed.
  • Arthritis or difficulty fastening shoes: two touch closures provide an alternative to tying laces.
  • Prescribed lifts: insole adjustments for leg-length discrepancy must be planned by a qualified professional.

Orthotics and fitting

Have a qualified fitter assess which insole layers should remain when using an AFO, custom orthotic or prescribed lift. Layer changes for a leg-length difference should follow professional guidance.

Care

Follow the shoe's supplied care instructions. Inspect closures and the fit around any brace regularly, and follow the brace manufacturer's maintenance guidance.

Will every AFO fit?

No. Brace dimensions and the space required around the foot vary. Compatibility needs to be checked with the actual brace and selected shoe.
